Also called eliquid or ejuice, vape juice is the liquid used to refill your vape tank or pod. It is vape juice that atomizes and produces the actual vapor. There are typically two types of vape juice:
Nic Salt Vape Juice or Pod Juice
Salt Nicotine Pod Juice is intended for use in smaller pod devices that are inhaled in a “Mouth to Lung” (MTL) fashion. Pod Juice contains high concentrations of salt nicotine rather than freebase nicotine. Freebase nicotine becomes harsh or provides what is called “throat hit” at higher strengths. The use of Nicotine Salt allows for significantly higher nicotine concentrations without this unpleasant side effect that would otherwise come with it. The use of nicotine salts paved the way for today’s Pod Vapes and Disposable Vapes to provide satisfying nicotine absorption despite their lower levels of vapor production. Another differentiator is that pod juice typically has a higher ratio of Propylene Glycol (PG) which has a lower viscosity than Vegetable Glycerine (VG) and helps to better wick the liquid to the coils in smaller devices.
Sub Ohm Juice or Vape Juice
Vape Juice is intended for use in larger subohm devices, tanks, or vape mods. It usually contains freebase nicotine in lower concentrations like 3mg/ml (0.3%) and 6mg/ml (0.6%) to be inhaled in a “Direct to Lung” fashion. Together with these larger devices it produces larger and more flavorful clouds of vapor, but do not typically provide the “head buzz” that is associated with higher strength pods and disposables. In contrast to pod juice, vape juice usually has a higher ratio of Vegetable Glycerine (VG) since the larger inlet holes on tanks have less of a problem wicking thicker juice.
What are PG and VG?
The primary ingredients in all vape juice are Propylene Glycol, Vegetable Glycerine, flavorings, and Nicotine. Propylene Glycol and Vegetable Glycerine are both commonly found in many food products and generally recognized as safe for inhalation although PG can be a mild irritant. When it comes to vaping, the main functional differences between the two are that VG creates larger clouds and is higher viscosity so it may not wick as well in smaller pods. You would notice this by frequently experiencing a phenomena vapers refer to as “dry burning”. That is why Pod Juice use a higher ratio of PG over VG. PG is also a mild irritant and imparts a “throat hit” that some smokers actually crave.
Vape Juice Flavors & Sizes
Vape Juice is available in a wide variety of Fruit, Candy, Dessert, and Beverage flavors as well as your classic Tobacco and Menthol varieties. There have been a number of trendy flavor categories over the years as well from Cereal flavors to more recently “iced” mentholated flavors.
Vape juice usually comes in 60ml, 100ml, or 120ml plastic bottles. Nicotine is the most expensive ingredient. So due to the higher nicotine concentrations and cost, pod juice typically comes in smaller 30ml bottles.
